NEW DELHI – Prices of maize rose today at Davanagere in Karnataka as arrivals declined, and those of mill-quality wheat remained steady in key markets across the country, traders said.
Prices of MAIZE rose by 150 rupees in Davanagere and was sold at 1,800-2,050 rupees per 100 kg, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader.
Maize prices rose today after the arrivals of the grain declined, traders said. Arrivals of the grain were pegged at 800 bags, down 200 bags from the previous day of trade.
In Purnea, Bihar, maize prices were steady at 1,750-1,820 rupees per 100 kg and arrivals stayed at 6,000 bags, traders said.
Prices of mill-quality WHEAT remained steady today in Kota, Rajasthan, as supply was sufficient to meet demand. Wheat was sold at 2,070-2,120 rupees per 100 kg, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader. Arrivals were pegged at 50,000 bags, down 10,000 bags from Wednesday.
Similarly, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, wheat prices remained unchanged at 2,350-2,375 rupees per 100 kg said Lavish Shah, a local trader.
Arrivals of the grain were pegged at 4,000 bags, up 500 bags from the previous day of trade.
The government has estimated wheat production in 2022-23 (Jul-Jun) at a record 112.2 mln tn, 4.2% above the output of 107.7 mln tn in the previous crop year.
The US Department of Agriculture has estimated global wheat production in 2023-24 at 789.8 mln tn, higher than the estimated 788.3 mln tn in 2022-23.
According to reports, India’s ban on export of wheat and wheat products is likely to continue in this year started April.
