MUMBAI – Prices of mill-quality wheat were flat in the key wholesale market of Kota, Rajasthan, while prices were up in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, said traders. Maize prices in Davanagere, Karnataka, also rose today, they said.
WHEAT prices in Kota were flat at 2,350 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals were down by 2,000 bags at 4,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg), said local trader Aniket Mehta.
Prices of wheat will most likely rise as the newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party government in Rajasthan may procure the staple above the minimum support price in keeping with the assembly election promise, said Mehta.
Before the elections, the BJP had promised to pay 2,700 rupees per 100 kg for wheat to farmers in Rajasthan, which is above the minimum support prices of 2,275 rupees set for 2024-25.
However, the movement of prices will also depend on the new harvest in February, he added. Wheat is a rabi crop which is sown in Oct-Dec and harvested in Feb-May.
In Indore, wheat prices were up 25 rupees at 2,475-2,525 rupees per 100 kg as arrivals were down 1,000 bags at 1,000 bags, said local trader Jitendra Panwar.
MAIZE prices in Davanagere rose by 100 rupees to 2,000-2,200 rupees per 100 kg despite arrivals rising 500 bags to 2,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg), local trader Shiva Kumar said.
The daily average consumer wholesale price of RICE was down 34.95 rupees at 3,806.75 per 100 kg, according to the consumer affairs department.
