MUMBAI – Wheat and maize prices were flat today across benchmark markets in Rajasthan and Karnataka, respectively, traders said.
In Kota, Rajasthan, prices of mill-quality WHEAT were flat at 2,350 rupees per 100 kg, with arrivals of 3,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg), said local trader Aniket Mehta.
Wheat prices were steady for the fourth consecutive day in Kota.
In January 2023, the staple grain had touched 2,800-2,900 rupees per 100 kg across key wholesale markets. However, as the year is near its end, prices have dropped significantly due to various government interventions.
MAIZE prices in Davanagere were steady at 2,000-2,200 rupees per 100 kg, while the arrivals were up 200 bags at 2,200 bags (1 bag = 60 kg), said local trader Shiva Kumar. “Prices are likely to rise by 50–100 rupees in the coming days as the maize stocks with farmers will decline,” Kumar said.
The daily average consumer wholesale price of RICE was up 25.52 rupees at 3,826.62 per 100 kg, according to the consumer affairs department.
According to the Mint newspaper, the government is planning to sell rice under “Bharat” brand at 25 rupees per kg to cool down the prices of the foodgrain. The process of selling Bharat Rice will be the same as “Bharat Dal” and “Bharat Atta”, according to the newspaper.
