New Nexen Tire Plant Now Officially Open

New Nexen Tire Plant Now Officially OpenNexen Tire Corp.’s Changnyeong, South Korea, passenger tire production plant officially opened on Oct. 11.

The plant has been producing tires since earlier in the year, but the latest event marks the symbolic start of serial production.

The official opening also provided the platform for Nexen chairman Byung Jung Kang to announce the completion of the first phase of Nexen’s industrial complex on the 610,000 square meters in Changnyeong after two years of construction work since its groundbreaking.

Nexen reports that after the opening ceremony, the investment will continue and 1.2 trillion Korean won in total will be invested by 2018. By that time, Nexen’s production capacity – including its other two plants in Yangsan and Qingdao – will be around 60 million units, which is twice the volume now.

Changnyeong’s automated lines enable the plant’s four team, three shift system with only 900 employees. “When we complete the investment in our second plant in South Korea, we will become one of the top 10 tire manufacturers in the world,” chairman Kang emphasized.
