Several thousand tonnes of Thai rubber shipment delayed – exporters

BANGKOK, Sept 2 – Several thousand tonnes of Thai rubber shipments were delayed as a prolonged protest by rubber farmers in Thailand’s southern provinceof Nakhon Si Thammarat disrupted transportation and logistic systems, exporters said on Monday.

“Around 30 percent of what we sold were affected by the protest and we needed to negotiate for about one or two weeks delay in deliveries,” CEO of Thai Hua Rubber Luckchai Kittipol told Reuters, referring to around 40,000 tonnes of rubber his company sold monthly.

Another rubber exporter in Thailand’s Hat Yai rubber centre who declined to be named said: “My company had to delay shipments for about 2 weeks as the protest cut off transportation”

Thai rubber farmers held a protest in the southern province last week, blocking traffic and demanding the government support prices of the commodity.
