Malaysia: Rubber exports increase by 32.3pc in Sept

Malaysia’s natural rubber (NR) exports in September 2013 rose by 32.3 per cent to 79,808 tonnes compared with the same month in 2012, with China as the main destination.

In a statement today, the Statistics Department said other export
destinations were Germany, Iran, Brazil, US, South Korea, Finland and Portugal.

The department said compared with the previous month, NR exports in September were 12 per cent (8,541 tonnes) higher.

NR imports in August 2013 increased by 9.1 per cent (7,320 tonnes) to 87,288 tonnes compared with the same month in the previous year.

The main imports came mainly from Thailand and Vietnam.

Meanwhile, NR production in September 2013 declined by 1.3 per cent to 71,921 tonnes compared with the same month last year.

The major contributors of NR were the smallholding sector, which accounted for 92.6 per cent of production and the estate sector contributed 7.4 per cent.

The highest producers of NR in estates were Negeri Sembilan (20.3 per cent), Kedah (17.5 per cent) and Perak (14.6 per cent).

At the end of September 2013, total stocks of NR were recorded at 166,867 tonnes, an increase of 5.9 per cent (9,301 tonnes) over the level of stocks held in the previous month and 24.5 per cent from a year ago.

The rubber processors held the biggest share of NR stocks (89.7 per cent).– Bernama
