NEW DELHI – Prices of mill-quality wheat rose today in key markets of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, due to robust demand, while those of maize were steady in major markets across the country, traders said.Â

Prices of mill-quality WHEAT rose today in Indore due to a rise in demand, said Lavish Shah, a local trader. Wheat was sold at 2,200-2,240 rupees per 100 kg in Indore, up 150 rupees from Wednesday and arrivals of the crop were pegged at 9,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg).

Markets reopened in Indore today after being shut on Thursday on account of a local festival, traders said.

In Kota, Rajasthan, wheat prices were steady despite an increase in arrivals, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader. Arrivals were pegged at 40,000 bags, up 20,000 bags from Thursday.Â

Harvesting of wheat has already begun in Madhya Pradesh and procurement of the crop will begin from Saturday. Wheat procurement in Punjab and Haryana will start from Apr 1.

MAIZE was sold at 2,500 rupees per 100 kg in Purnea, Bihar, steady from Thursday, said Kanhaiya Rastogi, a local trader. Arrivals of the crop were also pegged steady at 150 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), Rastogi said.

Similarly, in Davanagere, Karnataka, maize was sold at 1,900-2,050 rupees per 100 kg, steady from Tuesday, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader. Arrivals were pegged at 700 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), up 500 bags from Tuesday.

Markets in Davanagere reopened today after being shut on Wednesday and Thursday on account of a local festival, traders said.
