MUMBAI – Prices of maize were flat today in Purnea, Bihar, a market participant said. Markets for mill-quality wheat in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and Kota in Rajasthan were closed today, market participants said.
MAIZE prices in Purnea were at 2,050-2,100 rupees per 100 kg, flat from the previous day, said Kanhaiya Rastogi, a local trader. Arrivals were also flat at 4,000 bags (1 bag = 65 kg).
Traders expect prices of WHEAT to remain flat till the new wheat crop arrives at markets next month. Wheat prices may remain at 2,400-2,500 rupees per 100 kg, said Vijay Dukare, a trader from Aurangabad.
In Indore, Kota and Davanagere, markets were closed on account of Id-e-Milad.
In Indore, traders expect prices to open lower on Friday because of less demand in the market.
As of Friday, maize acreage in India was at 8.5 mln ha, up 3.2% from a year ago.
