An internal account manager at Yokohama has just completed his first London Marathon and put in a sprint finish with his fundraising efforts.
Danny Simmons, who was running for Cancer Research, has raised almost £3,500, which is a thousand pounds over his initial target.
Cancer Research is a cause close to Danny, who was diagnosed with Stage 2 testicular cancer in 2023. The good news, though, is that following treatment he was given the all clear later that year.
He also finished the marathon, which was held on Sunday 27th April in unusually warm temperatures, in a very commendable 4 hours 21 minutes.
It was the second marathon that Danny’s completed, having previously taken part in the Milton Keynes Marathon in 2022. This time round training included running 500 miles over 16 weeks.
Danny said: “The London Marathon lived up to all my expectations and the atmosphere was amazing, with unbelievable support from the crowds. I’m delighted to have raised money for Cancer Research to help it continue its incredibly important work.”
Danny had unsuccessfully applied four times to run the London Marathon, which is one of the world’s most popular marathons, and would like to run it again in 2026 following his first taste of the sporting spectacle.
Marisa Hever-Smith, Managing Director of Yokohama HPT Ltd, said: “Our utmost respect goes to Danny who put his best foot forward and smashed his fundraising target.”
