NEW DELHI – Prices of wheat rose today in Kota, Rajasthan, while those of maize remained unchanged in Davanagere, Karnataka, market participants said.
Prices of mill-quality WHEAT rose in Kota, despite an increase in arrivals, due to firm demand, traders said. In Kota, wheat was sold at 2,030 rupees per 100 kg, up 30 rupees from Thursday.
Arrivals of the staple grain were pegged at 100,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 20,000 bags from Thursday, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader.
However, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, wheat prices remained steady at 2,225-2,250 rupees per 100 kg, traders said. Markets in Indore reopened today after being shut Thursday on account of ‘Amavasya’.
The government has procured 11.1 mln tn of wheat in the 2023-24 rabi marketing season till Thursday, the Food Corp of India said in a tweet.
The government has estimated wheat production in 2022-23 (Jun-Jul) at a record high of 112.2 mln tn, 4.2% above the previous year’s output of 107.7 mln tn.
The US Department of Agriculture has raised its estimate for global wheat output in 2022-23 (May-Apr) to 789.02 mln tn from 788.94 mln tn estimated a month ago.
In Davanagere, Karnataka, MAIZE was sold at 1,500-2,000 rupees per 100 kg, unchanged from Thursday on regular demand and supply, while arrivals were pegged steady at 2,000 bags, local traders said.
Prices of maize were unavailable in key wholesale markets of Purnea, Bihar.
