NEW DELHI – Prices of mill-quality wheat fell today in Kota, Rajasthan, while those of maize remained steady in the major markets across the country, market players said.
WHEAT prices fell today in Kota, Rajasthan, after the arrivals of the crop increased, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader. In Kota, wheat was sold at 1,920-1,970 rupees per 100 kg, down 30 rupees from Wednesday. Arrivals of the grain were pegged at 60,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 30,000 bags from Wednesday, Mehta said.
However, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, wheat was sold at 2,250-2,275 rupees per 100 kg, steady from Wednesday, Lavish Shah, a local trader said. Arrivals, however, were pegged at 1,000 bags, down 1,000 bags from the previous day of trade.
The government has estimated wheat production in 2022-23 (Jun-Jul) at a record high of 112.2 mln tn, 4.2% above the previous year’s output of 107.7 mln tn.
The US Department of Agriculture has raised its estimate for global wheat output in 2022-23 (May-Apr) to 789.02 mln tn from 788.94 mln tn estimated a month ago.
In Purnea, Bihar, MAIZE was sold between a range of 1,750-1,800 rupees per 100 kg, unchanged from Wednesday as demand matched supply, traders said.
Arrivals of the crop were pegged at 7,000 bags, down 3,000 bags from the previous trading day.
Similarly, maize prices remained unchanged in Davanagere in Karnataka. In Davanagere, maize was sold at 1,400-1,900 rupees per 100 kg, steady from Wednesday, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader. Arrivals of the grain were pegged at 3,500 bags, down 500 bags from the previous day of trade.
