NEW DELHI – Prices of mill-quality wheat rose in Kota, Rajasthan today, while those of maize fell in Purnea in Bihar due to sluggish demand, market players said.
WHEAT prices rose in Kota due to firm demand for the grain, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader. In Kota, wheat was sold at 1,940-1,990 rupees per 100 kg, up 20 rupees from Friday. Arrivals were pegged at 160,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), significantly higher than 60,000 bags from Friday, Mehta said.
In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, wheat prices remained unchanged at 2,250-2,275 rupees per 100 kg, said Lavish Shah, a local trader. Arrivals were pegged at 5,000 bags, up 4,000 bags from Friday.
The government has estimated wheat production in 2022-23 (Jul-Jun) at a record high of 112.2 mln tn, 4.2% above the output of 107.7 mln tn the previous year.
The US Department of Agriculture has scaled up its estimate for global wheat output in 2022-23 (May-Apr) to 789.02 mln tn from 788.94 mln tn a month ago.
In Purnea, prices of MAIZE ranged from 1,750 rupees to 1,780 rupees per 100 kg, down 20 rupees from Friday due to sluggish demand, said Kanhaiya Rastogi, a local trader. Arrivals of the crop were pegged higher at 10,000 bags, compared with 7,000 bags on Friday.
However, maize prices in Davanagere in Karnataka remained steady. In Davanagere, maize was sold at 1,400-1,900 rupees per 100 kg, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader. Arrivals of the grain were pegged at 5,000 bags, up 2,000 bags from the previous day of trade.
