Independent tyre wholesaler Oak Tyres has exceeded its goal of offsetting 3,000 tonnes of carbon emissions in association with Ecologi.
Within 12 months, Oak Tyres has offset 3,800 tonnes of carbon from its van fleet through 15 different carbon avoidance projects, as well as funding over 47,000 trees for forestation and reforestation plans worldwide.
The projects Oak has supported include; a wind power project in Mexico, the first ever wind power project in Honduras, generating renewable solar electricity in Egypt and capturing waste biogas for energy in Turkey.
In its aim to ensure its fleet is fully carbon neutral, the carbon offset by Oak so far is the equivalent of 2,916 long haul flights, 11,400 square metres of sea ice saved or almost 9.5 million miles driven in a car.
Peter Cross, Oak Tyres’ Commercial Manager, said: “We are incredibly proud to have exceeded our targets and be on our way to becoming a more climate conscious and sustainable business. It is fantastic to see what is possible through change and the major impact we can provide globally.
“We can’t wait to continue our climate positive journey and we hope that our actions will be a step for change within the tyre industry.”
