MANILA, Philippines (AP) — A governor in the central Philippines says three workers have died and at least six others are missing after a wall of a coal mining pit collapsed after days of rains.
Antique provincial Gov. Rhodora Cadiao says she ordered the operator to stop work at the open Panian pit on Semirara Island until the six missing workers have been found.
Cadiao says by phone that days of rains preceded the mining accident but investigators have to determine what caused it.
A similar mining accident in 2013 in Semirara in Antique, about 350 kilometers (215 miles) south of Manila, killed at least 5 workers.
