NEW DELHI – Prices of mustard seed rose today in the benchmark markets of Jaipur, Rajasthan, as arrivals decreased, local traders said. Prices of soybean were unavailable.
In Jaipur, MUSTARD seed was sold at 5,850-5,875 rupees per 100 kg, up by 50 rupees from Friday after the arrivals declined, said Rupesh Parekh, a local trader. Arrivals of the oilseed in Jaipur were pegged at 175,000 bags (1 bag = 84 kg), compared with 215,000 bags on Friday. Arrivals across the country were estimated at 300,000 bags, down by 100,000 bags from Friday.
India’s edible oil imports rose to 1.9 mln tn in August, from 1.7 mln tn in July, data from The Solvent Extractors’ Association showed. On year, imports rose 34%.
In its third advance estimate, the government pegged the country’s mustard seed production in 2022-23 (Jul-Jun) at 12.5 mln tn, against 12.0 mln tn in the previous crop year.
SOYBEAN prices from Indore were unavailable as the markets were shut on account of a continuing strike by traders, said Mukesh Mangal, a local trader.
Farmers have sown soybean across 12.24 mln ha so far this kharif season, up 7% from last year, according to a survey by the Soybean Processors Association of India. However, according to the agriculture ministry, soybean acreage so far this season is 12.55 mln ha.
The government has pegged total oilseed output in 2022-23 (Nov-Oct) at 41.0 mln tn, against 38.0 mln tn in the previous oilseed year. End
