MUMBAI – Prices of mill-quality wheat were steady today in Kota and Indore as supply and demand remained balanced, market participants said. Maize prices in Purnea were also steady, local traders said.
In Kota, Rajasthan, prices of mill-quality WHEAT were flat at 2,400-2,500 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals of the staple grain were at 10,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), Aniket Mehta, a local trader, said.
In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, wheat was sold at 2,520 rupees per 100 kg, unchanged from the previous trading day, said Lavish Shah, a local trader. Arrivals were also steady at 3,000 bags.
MAIZE prices in Davanagere were largely unchanged at 1,900-2,100 rupees, local trader Shiva Kumar said. Arrivals, however, were pegged higher by 240 bags at 340 bags (1 bag = 60 kg).
Prices are expected to fall in the coming days as new mills are coming up in Karnataka, which may increase supply, Shiva Kumar said.
Maize prices were also unchanged in Purnea, Bihar, at 2,100 rupees. Arrivals were also the same as on Friday at 5,000 bags.
As of Friday, farmers in the country have planted maize across 8.5 mln ha, up 3.2% from the corresponding period last year.
