In their latest winter tyre test the German automotive publication Auto Bild praises the new Goodyear winter tyre UltraGrip Performance 3 for its great efficiency and sustainability and awards the tyre with their labels “Eco-Master” and “Green Tire”.
The test results underline the excellent balanced winter performance, without any tradeoff in mileage where the tyre clearly outranges competition making it a great choice also for EV drivers.
Testers celebrate the UltraGrip Performance 3 for its “environmentally conscious, sustainable and safe mobility”, for which they award an overall “exemplary” rating.
The experts highly recommend the Goodyear tyre, citing it as a “balanced premium tyre with convincing winter properties, very high mileage, short braking distances [and] good comfort.”
The Auto Bild winter tyre test 2023 compares 54 winter tyres from across the industry in the popular size 225/45 R 18.
Cutting-edge winter tyre for most popular cars
Goodyear develops its range of tyres with a variety of the industry’s most cutting-edge technologies. The Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3 includes several features that give it a key edge over its competitors.
Snow Protect technology provides increased sipe density, offering many gripping edges for optimal traction and grip. Meanwhile ‘snow claws’, which are longer grooves at the shoulder edge, improve performance on soft and deep snow.
Wet Grip+ technology was developed to optimise the tyre footprint, which helps it provide excellent water dispersion. On wet surfaces, water is pushed to the side, which reduces the risk of aquaplaning and offers excellent performance in wet driving conditions.
Furthermore, 3D sipes in the shoulder increase tyre stiffness and improve performance on dry roads.
Thanks to special tyre features which improve efficiency and reduce interior noise, UltraGrip Performance 3 winter tyre is also EV-ready. The UltraGrip Performance 3 fits amongst the latest and most popular vehicles in the market, such as the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Audi A6/S6, BMW i4 M50, BMW 4-series Gran Coupé, Cupra Formentor, Tesla Model S Plaid or Smart #1, Toyota Aygo X or Volvo C40/XC40.
Laurent Colantonio, Goodyear Senior Director Technology Consumer Europe, commented on the test success: “It is excellent to see Goodyear’s run of testing accolades continue. We are proving among our competitors that our products are not only some of the bests performing but are also maximised for sustainable mobility. The award recognises the constant pursuit of performance and efficiency that we build into every Goodyear design.
“Auto Bild’s methodology is among the most rigorous in the industry, both in terms of the performance criteria and the number of tyres compared. This makes us very proud to accept the “Eco-Master” and “Green Tire” labels for the Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3.”
