TOKYO: Tokyo stocks closed 1.08 percent higher on Thursday as Asian shares gained, following a surge on Wall Street driven by hints the US Federal Reserve would not raise interest rates next month.
The Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange added 197.61 points to finish at 18,574.44, while the broader Topix index of all first section shares rose 1.45 percent, or 21.44 points, to 1,500.41.
