MUMBAI – Prices of maize were nearly unchanged today across key markets of Kota, Rajasthan and Davanagere, Karnataka, and those of mill-quality wheat were also steady in Kota, traders said.
In Davanagere, MAIZE prices were largely flat at 2,000-2,350 rupees per 100 kg, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader. However, arrivals fell by 2,000 bags to 3,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg), he said.
“Due to less rainfall, maize production was low this year, and now arrivals are falling,” Kumar said.
As of today, key maize-producing states such as Karnataka and Bihar reported lower water storage levels compared to a year ago, according to the Central Water Commission’s weekly data.
In the 2023-24 first advance production estimates for kharif crops, maize production was seen down at 22.5 mln tn from 23.1 mln tn last year, according to the data released by the farm ministry.
