MUMBAI – Prices of mill-quality wheat in Indore, Madhya Pradesh fell today as mill owners quoted lower prices for the staple. The prices of maize remained flat in Davanagere, Karnataka.
WHEAT prices in Indore fell by 50 rupees to 2,575-2,600 rupees per 100 kg, while arrivals increased by 500 bags to 3,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg), local trader Jitendra Panwar said. “Flour millers are anticipating that the government may increase the auction quantity for wheat further,” Panwar said.
On Oct 27, the government increased the total maximum quantity of wheat auctioned under the open market sales scheme to 300,000 tn per auction from 200,000 tn earlier to increase domestic supply and stabilise domestic prices.
In the last auction conducted on Nov 29, Food Corp of India sold 284,000 tn wheat in the open market through e-auction.
MAIZE prices in Davanagere were flat at 2,000-2,350 rupees per 100 kg and arrivals remained steady at 3,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg), Shiva Kumar, a local trader said. The weather is fine as of now, but we are expecting it to rain in coming days due to which arrivals may drop, Kumar said.
The daily average consumer wholesale price for RICE rose by 3 rupees today to 3,794.4 rupees per 100 kg from the previous day, according to the consumer affairs department.
