RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazil’s government crop supply agency Conab raised its overall 2014/15 corn forecast to 84.7 million tonnes on Friday from 84.3 million tonnes last month and held its forecast of the now harvested soybean crop at 96.2 million tonnes in the final forecast of the crop year.
Conab raised slightly its estimate for Brazil’s second of two annual corn crops to 54.5 million tonnes from a record 54 million tonnes seen last month.
Brazil, one of few countries in the world with room to plant new fields with crops, harvested 11.8 percent more soybeans and is on track to harvest 5.8 percent more corn than in the 2013/14 season.
Conab also said Brazil would export 50 million tonnes of soybeans and 26.4 million tonnes of corn from the 2014/15 crops.
The agency forecast a 2015 wheat crop of 7.1 million tonnes, slightly up from 7 million tonnes seen in August.
