Indias natural rubber output in September declined 15% on year to 51,000 tn, data released by the Rubber Board showed. The decline in production can be attributed to the reluctance of rubber plantation growers for tapping due to poor realisations and higher production cost.
Natural rubber imports also had a significant decline to 32,933 tn in September, down 24.6% from 43,674 tn a year, the board said. Industry experts said ample inventories with tyre companies led to decline in natural rubber in September. They said tyre companies could have stocked up their raw material requirement until December.
Natural rubber output in Apr-Sep declined 15.4% on year to 281,000 tn.
Indias natural rubber consumption in September was 84,500 tn, down 2.1% from a year ago, while consumption in Apr-Sep fell nearly 2% on year to 501,535 tn.
Local rubber inventories rose 12.5% on year to 225,000 tn in September, it said.
