And, 25 years later, it still doesn’t
In light of the new Acura NSX drive, we took a look at our archives to see what we had to say about the first of Honda’s sports cars. In the article, Kevin Wilson compares the Acura-badged American version to the C4 Corvette, Nissan 300ZX and a Ferrari 348. With the NSX probably coming out of that list with the most reverence over the years, it’s easy to see why the NSX fanbase was so anxious for a modern twist on this neo-classic.
An aluminum monocoque-based, mid-engine sports car wasn’t expected out of the people that brought us the Honda Civic — we were happy that the folks behind the project jumped into that ring. The article goes on to mention that “while the NSX is a superb car, it’s no one-word supercar. It is meant to dwell with the 911, 348 and L98, not the 959, F40 and ZR-1.” That was certainly true for the now-modest 270 hp, but we would argue that the 2017 Acura NSX is definitely worthy of supercar status. So enjoy a look back at the original NSX and try to still your pounding heart in anticipation while reading about the new one.
