Berry Plastics Group Inc. is keeping the Typar housewrap business of recently acquired Avintiv and placing it into Berry’s new Health, Hygiene and Specialties division.
Berry spokeswoman Eva Schmitz said Typar, a well-known brand, fits the specialties segment of the HHS division because in addition to its use as a moisture barrier in building and construction, the wrap can be employed in filtration and other specialty markets.
“We can better track the synergies of the acquisition by integrating it into the HHS division,” Schmidt said in a telephone interview. “That’s in line with what we’ve done in the past.”
Typar wrap is non-woven polypropylene fabric loaded with calcium carbonate filler and a UV stabilizer and pigment. It is installed under a building’s exterior to protect against external moisture while allowing the escape of interior moisture in the wall cavity.
Typar DW wrap is a high-performance tri-laminate with a patented spacer to provide a 1 millimeter gap between the house sheathing and cladding to facilitate moisture drainage in high-rainfall areas. Typar wrap also needs to resist UV degradation and wind damage when it is exposed to the elements before exterior cladding is put in place during a building’s construction.
