Crain Communications has called off Plastics Recycling Show Europe (PRSE) in Brussels on Nov. 25 and 26 in the wake of the Belgian government’s warning of an imminent terrorist attack.
Following the bombing and shooting attacks in Paris on Nov. 13 the Belgian prime minister, Charles Michel, said the threat level was being raised, but urged the public to stay calm. Shopping centers have been closed and the city’s metro system has been shut down.
The PRSE show was due to take place at the Tour and Taxi venue in the Belgian capital on Nov. 25 and 26.
In a statement Crain Communications, which publishes Plastics News and Plastics News Europe, said: “In view of the official warning issues this morning relating to the situation in Brussels, the decision has been made to cancel/postpone the Plastics Recycling Expo Show planned to take place at the Tour & Taxis venue in Brussels next week.
“Brussels is now on the ‘highest alert level’ with warnings of a ‘very serious’ and ‘imminent’ threat. Therefore regrettably we must take action to cancel the event.
“Crain Communications Ltd takes its responsibilities extremely seriously and has a duty of care to its customers, staff, suppliers and colleagues and we will not in any way risk their safety and security.
“A decision will be made at a later date regarding a suitable time for the event to take place.”
