Materials maker Ampacet Corp. has brightened up its portfolio with the four new color palettes of FusionFx.
The new color palettes use proprietary technology to produce random flows of color effects, officials with Tarrytown, N.Y.-based Ampacet said in a news release. These effects “enable designers to literally create a one-of-a-kind product that celebrates individual expression and the raw beauty found in nature’s imperfections,” they added.
“FusionFx ensures that finished products are consistent, but never look exactly alike,” color insight manager Linda Carroll said in the release. “The designer becomes the artist.”
Examples of potential uses for Fusion Fx include a camouflage-look fishing tackle box, a plastic outdoor table suggesting the weight of granite, a trash can with the tactile look of cork and toys speckled with vibrant colors. Other potential markets include sporting goods, housewares and outdoor furniture.
“Our proprietary masterbatch process produces randomized flow of color effects during the injection molding process, for what we call ‘consistent inconsistencies’,” strategic business and marketing manager Doug Brownfield explained in the release. FusionFx also ensures that the physical properties of the finished part are maintained, he added.
The four palettes are Carnival, Cork, Camouflage and GeoClassics. Carnival “combines the spontaneity of brightly-colored confetti with the use of unanticipated accents for high-energy fun.” Cork “imbues products with the look of calming natural wood elements.”
Camouflage is described as a palette that “grabs the spotlight by revealing nature-mimicking effects.” GeoClassics “takes cues from the rugged and bold look of granite, concrete and quartz to give the visual weight of stone.”
Ampacet employs more than 2,000 at 24 plants worldwide, and ranks as one of the world’s largest makers of color and additive concentrates. The firm in 2014 acquired Australian concentrates maker Allied Color & Additives Pty. Ltd.
North American Senior Vice President Robert Fielding recently told Plastics News that Ampacet in the future might look to Asia to make a deal or build a new facility.
