UPDATED: Plastic Molding Manufacturing Inc. is adding a Midwest site to its portfolio, purchasing Aucilla Inc., an injection molder in South Bend, Ind.
Hudson, Mass.-based PMM is considering further expansion as well.
“We’re aiming to be a national company with a local service — our real objective is to satisfy and support our customers,” said George Danis, CEO of Plastic Molding Manufacturing, in a Feb. 1 phone interview.
Aucilla now operates under the PMM banner. With 20 employees at its 58,000-square-foot facility, it serves the medical, industrial and electronics markets, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The company is ISO 9001:2008 certified and has 22 injection molding presses ranging from 38 to 200 tons. It was founded in 1977.
Danis said PMM is looking to expand and diversify at the same time. The South Bend operation gives it its first plant that can operate “lights out” and has some technology that PMM does not have. It is also has a strong market in connectors and bearings.
Former owners Doug Beach and Paul Gonsoroski, as well as other key personnel, remain with the company.
PMM is headquartered in Hudson and has operations also in Berlin, Conn., and Lancaster, Pa. It now has 106 injection molding machines ranging from 24 to 500 tons, five two-shot machines and an ISO Class 8 certified clean room.
“Our approach with many plants under one umbrella is to minimize overhead and consolidate some tasks — like management, accounting, purchasing and some engineering. It’s very helpful and cost effective,” he said.
Danis also stresses that his approach is to promote “made in America” and to keep manufacturing in the United States.
He said PMM has been averaging one acquisition a year and has been looking at companies both in the Midwest and the South for further expansion. Danis said sales were up 12 percent last year and that they expect to grow organically and through acquisition again this year.
Plastic Molding Manufacturing is a name that Danis used when he started the company in 1968. Later, the individual sites went by the names of ResTech Corp, Northeast Mold and Plastics and True Precision Plastics. However, they were all renamed PMM at the start of 2015.
Molding Business Services of Florence, Mass., served as Aucilla’s adviser for the transaction.
