Three lab workers died March 16 when cleaning PVC reactors at Sichuan Jinlu Resin Co. Ltd. in Deyang, Sichuan, China.
The PVC maker’s publicly traded parent company, Sichuan Jinlu Group Co. Ltd., quickly announced the workplace deaths and suspended its share trading.
Jinlu said it is working with authorities to investigate the causes. The incident in the PVC plant’s lab reactor has not impacted the facility’s normal production, it added.
Local newspaper Sichuan Daily supplied more details about the incident and said two of the workers were cleaning the reactor when they started showing symptoms of poisoning around 8:30 a.m. A third worker went in to attempt rescue but was poisoned as well. All three were sent to the local hospital around 9 a.m. and were pronounced dead by 10:30 a.m.
Two of the workers were employees of a Jinlu contractor, and the other one a Jinlu staff employee.
