Auto supplier Key Plastics LLC has expanded its Chihuahua, Mexico, plant to include a new flatbed paint system for interior parts.
The system, which features in-house-designed software, was specifically designed for the desert conditions of Chihuahua, and can process more than 100 different colors, including high gloss and piano black, a company news release said. The expansion adds 30,000 square feet to the plant’s total footprint, bringing it up to a total of 85,000 square feet.
“This new system in Mexico, along with the UV hard coat system launched in China last October, demonstrate our long-standing commitment to provide world-class paint options to our customers around the globe,” Kurt Jensen, chief operating officer of Key Plastics, said in a statement.
Key has two facilities in Mexico currently.
Headquartered in Livonia, Mich., Key Plastics operates 12 manufacturing facilities worldwide, including paint facilities in six countries. The company produces automotive interior, exterior and under-the-hood plastic components with annual global sales of around $ 415 million. It has about 3,500 employees worldwide.
