Currier Plastics Inc. is strengthening its ability to handle higher cavitation molds for wide-mouth PET jars with the addition of two new Aoki stretch blow molding machines.
“It will help us for handling the larger necks. We have been limited on the number of cavitations and this will open other markets for us,” said Steve Crawford, blow molding engineering manager at the Auburn, N.Y., company.
Crawford said the larger tonnage machines will enable the company to grow in the cosmetic, personal care and food markets. He expects delivery of the first machine by early May, and the second by the end of the second quarter.
The company currently runs six Aoki stretch blow molding machines, and Crawford said sales have been strong since the 2013 opening of the company’s 55,000 square foot facility devoted to blow molding. It has room for the new machines plus up to three more.
Overall, the company occupies about 110,000 square feet.
Crawford said Currier can mold both containers and closures. Currier started production in 1982.
