Engineering resins maker Polyplastics Co. Ltd. is adding new grades of acetal resin in the Americas and Europe and is boosting its compounding capacity in Malaysia by almost 20 million pounds.
New grades of Duracon-brand acetal now available in those regions meet European Union regulations for food contact and drinking water. They’re available in injection molding and extrusion grades.
Tokyo-based Polyplastics opened sales offices in Farmington Hills, Mich.; Mexico City and Frankfurt in 2012. Its sales volumes of acetal and polybutylene terephthalate in the Americas and Europe now are four times higher than they were that first year, officials said in an April 27 news release. Polyplastics “will expand and strengthen” its sales structure in those regions, they added.
In Malaysia, Polyplastics will add almost 20 million pounds of compounding capacity by June 2017, bringing the site’s annual capacity to almost 80 million pounds. The expansion will lift the firm’s overall compounding capacity to almost 350 million pounds per year.
Polyplastics is a joint venture between Tokyo-based Daicel Chemical Industries Ltd. and Celanese Corp. of Dallas. The firm employs almost 2,000 worldwide and has annual sales of about $ 1 billion.
Polyplastics ranks as one of the world’s largest acetal makers with annual production capacity of almost 640 million pounds.
