Northwest European ethylene spot prices have fallen for the first time since June 28, as muted demand continued on sustained bearishness, sources said.
Ethylene prices closed Friday at Eur916/mt ($1,180/mt) FD NWE, down Eur1/mt day on day, S&P Global Platts data showed.
Muted spot demand was seen with flat derivative polyethylene offtake, on ample import availability.
Imports have remained strong throughout the year. EU polyethylene imports in the first four months of the year rose 52% year on year to 1,181,435 mt, according Eurostat data.
One converter said the market was weak and its customers were expecting a lower price.
Low density polyethylene spot prices were assessed Friday at Eur1,230/mt, flat on the week.
