Polycon Industries Inc. is investing millions in an expansion project that will nearly double the company’s space and employment.
The Merrillville, Ind.-based firm, which blow molds both stock and custom high density polyethylene containers, is spending more than $ 15 million on the project that will add 150,000 square feet. That will bring the company’s facility to 325,000 square feet, according to the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.
Polycon is a subsidiary of Crown Packaging International, located at the same site.
Construction already is under way and production is expected to begin in February.
The state agency is offering $ 635,000 in conditional tax credits for the project as well as up to $ 30,000 in training grants.
Polycon currently has more than 130 workers and plans to create another 100 jobs by the end of next year, the state said. The new staff will include machine operators, processors and mechanics.
“The economic strength and momentum of the state of Indiana and its commitment to the success of our business were the key factors in our decision to invest here,” said Polycon General Manager David Blitstein in a statement. “With the help of a strong business climate at the state and local levels, we have the support we need to grow our business on an ever larger scale.”
Polycon has been located in Merrillville since 2000 and was founded in Chicago in 1969. Markets for its containers include chemical, beverage, food and healthcare. The company’s standard containers range from 32 ounces to 2.5 gallons. Polycon also provides custom molding and labeling.
Crown Packaging International describes itself as a distributor of plastic containers, glass bottles and packaging accessories since 1947.
