An investigation is under way into the death of a worker due to an accident at a Saint-Laurent, Quebec, recycled plastic packaging facility.
Nu-B Inc. confirmed the Aug. 8 accident in a brief statement.
“The circumstances of the accident have not yet been clarified. Nu-B informed authorities concerned that it will cooperate fully with the investigations currently under way,” the company said.
While the company said it would not comment further out of respect for the family of the deceased and because of the investigations, local media reports shed some more light into the fatal accident.
A report on CBC.ca indicated the victim was a 56-year old man who got his hand caught in rotating rollers while trying to remove a piece of stuck plastic. His body was pulled into the machine, crushing his torso, the website indicated. He later died at a hospital.
“The management and the entire Nu-B team share in the family’s grief at this most difficult time,” Nu-B said in its statement.
Nu-B was created in 2010 to provide recycled packaging, according to a translation of the company’s LinkedIn profile.
Saint-Laurent is a borough of Montreal.
Both the Montreal police and the Quebec labor and safety commission, CNESST, are investigating.
