Consolidated Container Co. is taking a big stake in the Canadian bottled water market by acquiring Semopac of Longueuil, Quebec.
The Atlanta-based firm said August 15 that its Reid Canada Inc. subsidiary purchased Semopac’s assets that primarily blow mold 3- and 5-gallon polycarbonate water bottles for home and office water coolers in Canada and the United States. Terms of the purchase from the Lavergne Group were not disclosed.
“We are excited to complete this tuck-in acquisition and expand our manufacturing footprint into Canada, allowing us to leverage its capabilities and expertise to better serve our growing customer base,” noted Patrick Keese, senior vice president and general manager of Consolidated Container’s beverage group, in a news release.
Semoopac’s only plant in the Montreal suburb of Longueuil has multiple blow molding lines primarily for PC bottle production, Keese said in an email correspondence. He would not disclose further information on the deal.
Consolidated Container had estimated blow molding sales of $ 820 million in 2014, according to Plastics News data. It runs about 57 blow molding operations in North America, many in customers’ facilities.
