Plastipak Packaging Inc. is adding two new lines to the company’s plastic bottle manufacturing facility in McCalla, Ala.
The $ 10.4 million project will create at least five new jobs on top of the 117 people who already work at the site near Birmingham, according to the Birmingham Business Alliance.
The alliance, as well as Jefferson County officials, worked with the company on the project, including county approval of what the alliance describes as statutory abatements of $ 427,000 over 10 years.
“The Plastipak team is excited to be able to expand our plant again and to continue to serve our regional customers with high quality products that are manufactured in the state of Alabama,” said William Young, president and CEO of parent company Plastipak Holdings Inc. of Plymouth, Mich.
Ted vonCannon is executive director of the Jefferson County Economic and Industrial Development Authority, manager of the industrial park where Plastipak is located.
“Plastipak is one of the oldest tenants in JeffMet McCalla and has been a vital component of our recruitment efforts to the park,” he said in a statement. “It’s expansions over the years indicate a strong local workforce and an ideal central location to serve its customers throughout the Southeast.”
