A group of private sector rubber producers have petitioned the government to drop export taxes on rubber products, arguing that by scrapping the tax the sector would attract foreign investment into processing factories.
Mong Reththy, head of Mong Reththy Group, a leading rubber producer, said in a Facebook post yesterday that competing exporters Thailand and Vietnam have scrapped export taxes on rubber and Cambodia should follow suit.
He added that Cambodia has joined the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), and abolishing the tax would ensure fair competition.
