PORT KLANG: The Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities is confident that rubbber-based products will continue to grow over the next few years going by the increase in their export value every year.
Its Minister, Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, said the rubber products continued to get high demand in the global market and they contributed about RM18 billion to the country’s revenue last year.
“The export of Malaysian rubber products amounted to RM18 billion in 2015 and recorded a growth of 18.6 per cent compared with 2014. Because of this, the ministry is confident rubber-based products will continue to grow, driven by high demand for products such as gloves and condoms,” he said.
He said this to reporters after a working visit to the factory of the world’s largest condom manufacturer, Karex Bhd, here yesterday.
Also present was Karex chief executive officer, Goh Miah Kiat.
Mah said Malaysia exported condoms to more than 120 countries including Europe, the Middle East and Africa with export value totalling about RM430.9 million last year. — Bernama
