India’s natural rubber production during the current fiscal year is set to outstrip the earlier estimate of 6.54 lakh tonnes. Even with 31 days of production to be factored in, the rubber output in the April 2016 to February 2017 period has touched 6.22 lakh tonne, say Rubber Board of India statistics. This is 17.58% higher than the production during the same period last year, says a statement by Rubber Board. Last year, in the same period, the production was just 5,29,000 tonnes. Intermittent summer showers in most of the rubber growing areas and relative improvement in rubber price may translate to fairly good production in March too.
