NEW YORK: Wall Street stocks paused near record levels early Wednesday ahead of Federal Reserve meeting minutes expected to shed light on the likelihood of a December rate hike.
The minutes cover the two-day Fed meeting that concluded on November 1 with no change in interest rates.
Most analysts expect the US central bank to lift rates in December ahead of Fed Chief Janet Yellen’s replacement next year by President Donald Trump’s nominee, Jerome Powell.
Analysts were girding for below-average trading volumes ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. Markets are closed Thursday and conclude early on Friday.
About 20 minutes into trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was at 23,575.53, down 0.1 percent.
