KOTTAYAM, JANUARY 31
The Rubber Board is organising an entrepreneurship development programme for rubber growers, dealers and unemployed youth for setting up commercial sheet rubber processing units. The workshops will be held at Kanjirappally, Kothamangalam, Mukkam, Taliparamba (Kerala), Belthangady in Karnataka and Marthandam in Tamil Nadu.
N Rajagopal, Secretary, Rubber Board, will inaugurate the programme at Kanjirappally, on February 1.
The workshops are being organised by the Market Promotion Division of the Board in association with the National Institute of Agricultural Marketing, Jaipur, which functions under the Union Ministry of Agriculture.
The objective is to attract private entrepreneurship in sheet rubber processing for improving quality of sheet rubber. Owing to labour shortage, many growers are now shifting to sale of latex rather than processing their produce into sheet rubber.
Inconsistencies in the quality of rubber sheets are often reported owing to heterogeneous processing techniques adopted by growers.
