Japan to propose new framework to discuss trade with U.S.: Nikkei

TOKYO (Reuters) – Japan will propose setting up a new framework to discuss trade issues with the United States in a summit next week, the newspaper reported on Saturday.

Economy Minister Toshimitsu Motegi is likely to lead the Japanese delegation, with his counterpart for the United States likely to be U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, the paper said without citing sources.

Japan will make the proposal when Primer Minister Shinzo Abe meets U.S. President Donald Trump on April 17-18, the Nikkei said. Motegi will accompany Abe for the summit, it said.
