BEIJING: China’s major stock indices closed higher Wednesday, buoyed largely by gains in the banking and cyber security sectors.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.8 percent to finish at 3091.4, while the smaller Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.92 percent higher at 10,491.2. Combined turnover on the two bourses stood at 494.5 billion yuan (78.7 billion US dollars).
Shares in the cyber security sector led the rally. Beijing Vrv Software and Dawning Information Industry saw their share prices jump 10 percent, hitting the daily increase limit.
Shares in the banking sector also went up, with shares of Ping An Bank growing 2.59 percent to 11.5 yuan.
The ChiNext Index, which tracks China’s NASDAQ-style enterprises, gained 2.16 percent to close at 1,822.26 Wednesday.
