The earnings on rubber exports from Myanmar have dropped by US$80 million, despite more rubber being exported so far this year than last year. The drop is to a fall in the global rubber price of $400 per ton.
“$320 million was earned from exporting 78,000 metric tons of rubber in the 2011-12 fiscal year. But in 2012-13 fiscal year, only $239 million was earned from exporting 82,000 metric tons of rubber,” said Khine Myint, the secretary of The Myanmar Rubber Producers Association.
The current prices for rubber on April 8 are $2,700 to $2,800 per ton for RSS-3 and $2,600 to $2,700 USD per ton for RSS-5.
