Styrolution’s Channahon, Illinois, polystyrene facility is running at reduced rates because flooding on the Mississippi River has delayed feedstock styrene deliveries, a source with the company said Monday.
The facility has a production capacity of 902 million lbs/year for polystyrene, according to the company website. Channahon is the only Styrolution facility running at reduced rates currently, the source said.
“The issues with the river navigation should be resolved in the next few days,” the source said.
Sources said the issues were with delivery of feedstock styrene from the US Gulf Coast. Delivery of polystyrene from the facility to customers has not been delayed, sources said.
Americas Styrenics has a facility at Joliet, Illinois, that produces 270 million lbs/year of high-impact polystyrene, but sources were uncertain Monday if Mississippi River flooding was affecting delivery of feedstock styrene to the facility.
A source with the company said last week they were not seeing any impact on the facility or feedstock delivery due to the Mississippi River.
