HAMBURG: The Taiwan Flour Millers’ Association has purchased 101,400 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States in an international tender which closed on Thursday, European traders said.
The purchase involved a range of different wheat types in two consignments for shipment from the U.S. Pacific Northwest coast.
The first consignment for shipment between Dec. 19, 2018, and Jan. 2, 2019, involved 25,450 tonnes of U.S. dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content, bought from trading house CHS at $255.62 a tonne on a free on board (FOB) basis, traders said.
Another 18,800 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5 percent protein content was bought from trading house Itochu at $245.28 a tonne FOB, and 8,050 tonnes of soft white wheat with 9 percent protein was bought from CHS at $232.70 a tonne FOB.
The first consignment has an additional freight charge of $32.32 a tonne for ocean shipping from the U.S. Pacific Northwest coast to Taiwan, they said.
The second consignment for shipment between Jan. 5 and Jan. 19, 2019, involved 25,500 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content, bought from CHS at $257.47 a tonne FOB.
It also included 18,100 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5 percent protein content bought from Itochu at $248.41 a tonne FOB, and 5,500 tonnes of western white wheat with 9 percent protein bought from CHS at $232.70 a tonne FOB.
The consignment has an additional charge of $33.48 a tonne for ocean shipping from the U.S. Pacific Northwest coast to Taiwan, they said.
In its last reported tender on Oct. 2, the association purchased 110,000 tonnes of milling wheat also to be sourced from the United States.
