LONDON—Asia-Pacific nations will continue to reign as the biggest consumer synthetic rubber, and will increase that lead in the future, according to a new market report.
In 2012, the Asia-Pacific region account for nearly 50 percent of global rubber production and 47 percent of worldwide consumption, according to a study by German market research and consultant firm Ceresana. North America ranked second, closely followed by Europe.
Styrene-butadiene is the most-used type of synthetic rubber, at 5.4 million metric tons processed in 2012, Ceresana said. Polybutadiene is second.
