MUMBAI – Prices of wheat in Kota and Indore rose today due to pick up in demand. Maize prices remained steady for the second straight day in Bihar’s Purnea and Karnataka’s Davanagere because of lack of strong demand, said market participants.
* WHEAT prices in Kota, the benchmark market in Rajasthan, rose on firm demand from south India. Arrivals were pegged steady at 3,500 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), compared with 2,500 bags on Wednesday, said Chander Khandelwal, a local trader.
* Prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, also gained. Arrivals were steady at 3,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg).
* MAIZE in Davanagere, a key trading centre, remained steady as bulk buyers were reluctant to make huge purchases because of moisture content of 28-30% in the new crop, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader.
* “The new crop of maize has started hitting the market in small quantity, arrivals are likely to gain pace in coming weeks,” Kumar said, adding that demand for the same is likely to pick up once quality of the crop improves.
* Today, in Davanagere, around 3,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg) arrived in the market, compared with 500 bags on Wednesday.
* In Purnea, another key trading centre for maize, arrivals and prices were steady. Arrivals were pegged at 14,000-15,000 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), said local trader Khaniya Rastogi.
* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
