Last year they raised £4,500 for the Wheelwrights’ Charity which is run almost entirely by volunteers meaning that it can distribute more funds to charities in need, via a grant system.
Already this year the Wheelwrights’ Charity has been able to support some very important work such as that of the GASP Motor Project in Surrey an independent alternative learning provider that delivers accredited courses in basic motor mechanics and practical engineering skills to young people aged between 14 and 16 years who are disaffected, disadvantaged and under-achieving, and those with special educational needs. It also provides sessions for young people who are homeless and unemployed. Whenever appropriate, it also helps to facilitate students’ onward progression into education, training, and employment.
The charity has also supported Hounds for Heroes a charity that is committed to empowering and supporting disabled veterans and emergency service personnel by providing trained assistance dogs who play a crucial role in improving the quality of life for individuals. A grant was approved for the purchase of equipment and supplies for the puppies which are essential tools for teaching the dogs to interact with everyday environments. Support for this charity was particularly relevant as historically the Wheelwrights’ Charity has supported the Armed Forces and had recently signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant.
Nottinghamshire Club for Young People a not-for-profit organisation passionate about helping young people in Nottinghamshire be healthy, safe, confident, and successful. It owns the Monty Hind Centre and the Maurice Youdell Lodge and hire out both spaces to many other youth groups and clubs across Nottinghamshire, alongside providing education and training through accredited courses. Many of the young people that attend these clubs have a disability or learning difficulty, and so the club provides a safe and supportive environment for them to learn new skills and experiences. A Wheelwrights’ grant was awarded to replace the internal concert hall doors, ensuring that their young people and any wheelchair users can access the hall safely.
All are welcome, so get involved, play golf, socialise, sponsor, donate, promote, and have a great time while raising money in support of some incredible causes, every penny counts and can be life changing to so many people!
