Kumho Tyre’s ECSTA PS71 has earned an ‘Exemplary’ rating in AutoBild’s prestigious 2025 Summer Tyre Test for 225/40R18, securing an impressive fourth place finish for its outstanding performance in dry and the best result in wet conditions of the tested tyres.
The result highlights Kumho’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-performance, reliable and cost-effective tyre solutions for drivers worldwide.
AutoBild, one of Germany’s most respected automotive publications, tested 52 summer tyres as part of its rigorous annual evaluation. The ECSTA PS71 stood out in several key areas, particularly excelling in wet performance.
It was the only tyre to receive the highest possible score of ‘1’ in the wet handling category, confirming its superiority in grip and control under challenging conditions. The testers praised the PS71’s very good aquaplaning resistance, noting that it maintained exceptional stability and control even in the wettest of conditions.
Handling and braking were also highlighted as standout qualities of the PS71. The tyre demonstrated impressive driving dynamics, offering precise and responsive handling with notably short braking distances on both wet and dry surfaces.
Cost efficiency was another area where the PS71 excelled, being one of the best performers in terms of price-to-mileage ratio. It demonstrated long-lasting durability without compromising on performance.
The ECSTA PS71 is an ultra-high-performance (UHP) tyre designed to meet the demands of modern vehicles. Its advanced tread pattern efficiently channels water away to reduce the risk of aquaplaning, while the specialised tread compound enhances grip and braking performance on wet surfaces.
The tyre’s high-speed stability further reinforces its capability, making it suitable for both everyday driving and more dynamic handling situations. PS71 is being progressively replaced by Kumho with its new ECSTA Sport product, though PS71 SUV and PS71 EV will remain in the range.
Head of Europe, Tony Gangseung Lee, said “We are delighted with this result; even at the end of the ECSTA PS71 product lifecycle.“We are confident that our newest product, ECSTA Sport, will live up to the outstanding legacy of ECSTA PS71.”
Matthias Bode, Head of Research & Development, Europe, said “AutoBild’s recognition of the ECSTA PS71’s outstanding performance reflects our commitment to innovation and delivering products that offer both high performance and value for money throughout their lifecycle.
“Our focus remains on developing tyre technologies that meet the evolving needs of drivers worldwide.”
AutoBild’s summer tyre test is widely regarded as one of the most influential in the industry. The publication’s thorough and independent testing provides drivers with trusted guidance when selecting tyres, making the ‘Exemplary’ rating a significant endorsement of the ECSTA PS71’s quality and performance.
